Not a warning service

SeismoAtlas shows earthquake information after seismological agencies have published it, usually minutes after the event. It is not an early-warning system, does not issue warnings, and must not be relied on for safety decisions. For warnings, evacuation orders and safety advice, follow your national agency and local authorities. For tsunami information use the official warning centres, for example tsunami.gov.

Accuracy

Automatic magnitudes and locations change, sometimes substantially, in the first hour. Events can be merged, split or deleted by the agencies. Shaking estimates and energy comparisons are approximations from published formulas and are labelled as such. The service is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, and we are not liable for decisions made on the basis of it.

Data and licences

Earthquake data belongs to the agencies that produce it and is used under their terms, listed on Data sources. When you reuse data from our site, API or MCP server, keep the attribution that comes with it.

API and MCP server

• Free to use without a key within the published rate limits.
• Do not try to bypass the limits, scrape the HTML at high rates, or resell access to the API itself.
• Do not present our data as an official warning, or as coming from a government agency.
• We may change or withdraw endpoints; versioned paths (/api/v1) stay stable for at least six months after a successor is announced.

Felt reports and alerts

Submit felt reports honestly and only for shaking you experienced. We may discard reports that look automated or inconsistent. Push alerts are best effort: delivery depends on your browser, device and network and can be delayed or lost.
